Happiworkers Boundaries

At Happiworkers, we support a spectrum of mental health needs. We aim to cater to as many mental health concerns as possible. We believe in transparency regarding our capabilities, acknowledging the severe cases we may not be fully equipped to address, and highlighting areas where we seek your collaboration for the best outcomes.

Happiworkers isn’t suitable if you're in a crisis.

Happiworkers is unsuitable for crises as it isn’t a medical service and cannot provide immediate care in a mental health emergency. If you're experiencing a mental health crisis, considering suicide, or if you're a danger to yourself or others, please contact emergency services:

  • Call 111 for urgent medical help when it's not life-threatening.
  • Dial 999 if there's immediate danger or harm.
  • Reach out to the Samaritans at 116 123, available 24/7 by phone or email at jo@samaritans.org.
  • For crisis lines in other countries, click here.

Happiworkers isn't suitable for all mental health conditions.

Our diverse range of experienced and qualified practitioners is equipped to help with various mental health struggles.

However, Happiworkers isn’t appropriate for people with the following:

Strong desire, thoughts or plans to harm oneself or others

Active psychosis or psychotic disorders

Recent trauma from physical/sexual assault (past 2 weeks)

Enduring, complex conditions like schizophrenia, anorexia, dementia, severe addiction or personality disorders severely limit functioning or pose safety risks

Happiworkers cannot provide formal medical diagnoses.

Happiworkers' practitioners offer support and intervention for many mental health issues but cannot provide formal diagnoses. For an official diagnosis, please consult your GP for a referral to a specialist or psychiatrist.

Happiworkers therapy is not recommended alongside sessions with another therapist.

It's not advisable to engage in therapy sessions with more than one mental health professional at the same time. Therefore, if you're already working with a therapist, we recommend not starting simultaneous therapy at Happiworkers. However, this doesn't stop you from getting a coach and exploring other coaching options at Happiworkers.

In some situations, Happiworkers may choose not to provide care.

Happiworkers may sometimes choose not to offer services in certain situations. This includes cases where individuals cannot abstain from alcohol or substances during the sessions or require hospital-based in-patient or out-patient care. Additionally, Happiworkers reserves the right to withdraw services in instances of prolonged verbal abuse towards its practitioners.

Happiworkers is confidential—but within legal & ethical limits

We take your confidentiality incredibly seriously. In nearly all circumstances, anything you share with Happiworker's practitioners is strictly between you and them.

If your doctor is treating you for emotional difficulties, you should inform them about us. We will not confer with your doctor without your knowledge and permission. Unless there is convincing evidence that you intend to harm yourself or others or you require extra support outside of your sessions, we may need to break confidentiality by informing your contact on your emergency contact form, doctor, or other appropriate agencies without your consent if it was felt that the risk of not disclosing is more significant than not disclosing.

  1. If a child is at risk of being abused or neglected
  2. If you present an imminent risk of serious injury to yourself
  3. If you threaten serious harm to another person/s

There might be exceptional occasions not related to self-harm where we deem it in your best interests to share information with other professionals involved in your care, such as your doctor or your assigned mental health team. We would generally ask your permission to share this information; however, there might be rare circumstances where we would share information without your consent, for example, if we believe you may come to physical harm if we don’t share it.

Our Ethical Guidelines require all practitioners to have a clinical supervisor. They may discuss aspects of sessions in supervision but must keep you anonymous - no identifying details are shared, only clinical techniques/concerns.

When Happiworkers practitioners have concerns about a client, like missing a session after discussing a difficult topic, they seek guidance from the Chief Clinical Officer. This involves summarising the concerns, which may be shared with future practitioners for continuity of care while ensuring service-wide confidentiality.

After seeking advice, your practitioner may contact you to ensure you are okay. They will use the email address and phone number you provided to Happiworkers when booking the session or any other contact details given directly. Unless you specifically ask, we will never inform your employer or anyone else if this outreach occurs.

Before starting sessions, Happiworkers require an emergency contact to be supplied. In nearly all situations, this remains unused. However, it provides an extra safeguard if risk concerns arise.

Please let your practitioner know if you would like us to take any other steps besides contacting your emergency contact, such as notifying a friend or family member if we ever feel concerned about your well-being.

Safeguarding Procedures:

Emergency Contact

UK law mandates our practitioners protect client welfare.

Upon booking an online session, clients must provide 1 trusted emergency contact, including full name, primary number, and email address. This is stored in their profile.

In case of emergency:

Practitioners can access emergency details supplied by a client deemed at risk.

If judged to be in an emergency state, the practitioner will contact the listed emergency contact(s) about the risk as professional duty requires.

The practitioner then reports the risk to the Chief Clinical Officer, who assists with further resources as needed.

During your first session, please let your practitioner know if you'd like us to do anything else in case we feel concerned about you, such as calling a friend or family member.

Happiworkers won't give you advice.

At Happiworkers, our trained practitioners provide guidance and support for mental well-being but don't give direct advice. The decisions you make outside our sessions are your responsibility, as we believe in empowering you to make choices that define you. Our role is to support, not to dictate your actions.

Happiworkers need you to cancel on time.

To cancel or reschedule an appointment, inform your Happiworkers practitioner directly or email hello@happiworkers.health as soon as possible, no less than 48 hours in advance. Last-minute cancellations under 48 hours will be counted as a session used.

If you notify them that you're delayed, it is at the practitioner's discretion whether to add any remaining session time or simply keep to the original end time. Typically, the full-time is not extended when you arrive late.

If you miss two consecutive sessions without notice and if cancellations exceed two sessions, we will cancel the remaining sessions automatically. You can inquire about restarting services if you choose to return later.

We aim to avoid wasted sessions so we can support others in need. With sufficient notice, you can easily reschedule appointments based on availability. However, late cancellations or no-shows will be considered sessions used, as we still compensate practitioners' reserved time.

Get the most out of your Happiworkers sessions: Preparation tips!

We make every effort to ensure that Happiworkers' sessions run smoothly. However, some preparation is required from you as the client.

You are responsible for finding a private, safe session space free of disruptions or fear of being overheard. Letting those around you know not to interrupt is advised. A reliable internet connection is also essential, as poor connectivity can significantly impact session quality.

Please review our troubleshooting tips if you experience a weak connection, and we will also try assisting on our end. Suppose technical issues considerably disrupt a session on your end, and your practitioner reports missing a significant portion of the appointed time. In that case, they have the discretion to count it as a session used rather than rescheduling.

With your help securing a focused environment and steady internet, we can maximise the value of each appointment. Please reach out if any questions on optimising your setup for productive Happiworkers sessions!

How to prepare for your first session:

  1. Set an intention for what you want from your session.
  2. Give yourself a break; feeling awkward is normal.
  3. Be open as possible.
  4. Listen to your gut.
